Day 88 – Psalm 77

“Will He be favourable no more?” Psalm 77:7b

THE SECOND QUESTION

There were no answers forthcoming for his first question. The second question was soon at the heels of the first one.

“And will He be favourable no more?”
Psalm 77:7b

1. The favour of God

The word “favour” involves a number of things. Four things are highlighted:-

a) God’s mercy
b) God’s grace
c) God’s love
d) God’s choice

The sons of Korah were correct when they wrote these words, as they recalled how Israel came to possess Canaan.

“For they did not gain possession of the land
by their own sword,
Nor did their own arm save them;
But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and
the light of Your countenance,
Because You favoured them.”
Psalm 44:3

2. Will God be favourable no more?

Asaph had every reason to be concerned.

a) No one can earn God’s favour.
b) Israel kept sinning against God and was understandably out of favour.

3. What if God would be favourable no more?

a) Israel would be cut off.
b) The history of Israel would come to an abrupt end.
c) That Israel could be out of favour with God forever worried Asaph sick!

4. How may a nation have God’s favour restored again?

a) This would be a task that Asaph felt he should seek to engage in.
b) He was after all a Levite committed to interceding for his nation.
