Day 150 – Psalm 78

“And He led them on safely, so that they did not fear…” Psalm 78:53a

THE EXODUS FROM EGYPT

The tenth plague caused Pharaoh to release the children of Israel from bondage. But till they were safely out of the land of Egypt, the deliverance was not complete. God had to continue to lead His people.

“And He led them on safely, so that they did not fear;
But the sea overwhelmed their enemies.”
Psalm 78:53

1. “And He led them on safely”

a) The leading of God was gratefully acknowledged.
b) Though Moses played a key role, the Person who led Israel was God Himself.
c) Where God personally leads, He also ensured safety.

2. “So that they did not fear”

a) There was initial fear.
b) The children of Israel were afraid.
i) When they came to the Red Sea.
ii) When they knew that Pharaoh had sent his army against them.
c) But God helped the children of Israel to overcome all their fears.
i) The Red Sea parted at God’s command.
ii) The children of Israel crossed the Red Sea dry-shod.

3. “But the sea overwhelmed their enemies”

a) The Egyptians thought that they too could cross the Red Sea as the children of Israel did.
b) As their chariots ventured into the Red Sea they found that the waters closed in on them.
c) All who entered into the Red Sea perished that day.

UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES

These experiences were unforgettable! These stories of God’s personal involvement must be retold to every generation. Asaph made sure that he would not fail to do his part. The re-telling of these great and sacred stories of Israel need not lose its potential impact. Each story must carry with it deep spiritual meaning and significance.
