Day 211 – Psalm 81

“I would soon subdue their enemies…” Psalm 81:14a

DIRE THREATS FROM ENEMIES

Israel had to face dire threats from enemies from the first day they entered the land of Canaan. There were many hostile enemies that were determined to exterminate Israel. From the days of Joshua, Israel learned that they needed to turn to God as their Commander-in-Chief if they were to ever conquer their enemies.

CONQUERORS

For a brief period of time, under the leadership of Joshua, Israel was able to subdue their enemies. The tribes of Israel were then given their allotted plots of land and for a while enjoyed peace.

RE-EMERGENCE OF ENEMIES

Israel’s enemies may have lost some battles, but they were determined to overcome Israel. After the death of Joshua, Israel became weak because they had chosen not to walk in the faith of their forefathers. Soon enemies overran the nation and impoverished the people. Nevertheless, they did not return to God in repentance. They continued to walk after the dictates of their own hearts!

COULD GOD REMEDY THE PLIGHT OF ISRAEL?

God reminded His people that He could easily help them.
