Day 261 – Psalm 85

“Will You not revive us again…” Psalm 85:6a

MANY PRAYERS OFFERED TO GOD

The ministry of intercession is not an easy one to undertake. There are many subtleties that must be carefully noted.

“Will You not revive us again,
That Your people may rejoice in You?”
Psalm 85:6

1. Subtleties understood

a) Returning to Israel from the Babylonian captivity did not mean God’s anger had ceased altogether.
b) Forgiveness of sins did not mean that God would never be angry again.
c) Deliverance from enemies did not mean that God’s anger would not be aroused again.

2. Petitions for deeper things made

a) Full restoration was prayed for (Psalm 85:4a).
b) Total removal of God’s anger was prayed for too (Psalm 85:5).
c) Prayer for Revival was next on the list.
i) Spiritual revival was in mind.
ii) The land needs to be restored to its former glory.
iii) But the spirit of revival must also be present.
iv) There must be a revived spirit of worship.
v) There must be a revival in the hearts of all who had returned from exile.
vi) This would be a major blessing from God to be prayed for.
d) Prayer for the return of the spirit of joy.
i) It was possible to merely work hard to restore the land but without much joy.
ii) There must be the spirit of rejoicing in the Lord and in the land.
iii) This was something worth praying for.
