Day 341 – Psalm 89

“He shall cry to Me, ‘You are my Father…” Psalm 89:26a

SUMMARY OF THOUGHTS

Some of the things that Ethan the Ezrahite wrote may be understood as a summary of some of the things God spoke to King David. The following text is an example of this “summary” approach.

“He shall cry to Me, ‘You are my Father,
My God, and the rock of my salvation.'”
Psalm 89:26

1. “He shall cry to Me”

a) This is a reference to praying to God.
b) David was certainly a man of prayer.
c) The many psalms he wrote bear testimony of his prayerfulness.

2. “You are my Father”

a) This is more of a theological summary of David’s understanding of his relationship with God.
b) God certainly saw His relationship with His saints as a Father (Isaiah 1:2; Malachi 1:6).

3. “My God”

a) David definitely acknowledged the Lord as his God.
b) Boldly, he declared the Lord as his God (Psalm 3:7; 4:1; 18:2).

4. “And the rock of my salvation”

a) This statement reminds us of the famous psalm David wrote (Psalm 18).
b) David cultivated a very strong relationship with God:-
i) He declared his love for the Lord.
ii) The Lord was his strength.
iii) He was his rock and his fortress.
iv) He was his deliverer.
v) He was his shield.
vi) He was the horn of his salvation and his stronghold.
