"Therefore let us not judge one another anymore..."

Text: Romans 14:13

THE PROBLEM OF JUDGING OTHERS

This must have been quite a problem in the Roman church for the apostle Paul to have devoted as much time and space as he did. Paul recognized the grave danger that threatened the church if this problem was not addressed adequately!

EVERY REASON WAS USED TO COMBAT THIS PROBLEM

Let us take time to review how Paul fought this problem. He reminded his readers to bear in mind the following powerful truths:-

1. Believers live and die “to the Lord” (Romans 14:7-8).

2. Believers are to consciously practise the Lordship of Jesus (Romans 14:9).

3. Believers are reminded that they are brothers (Romans 14:10).

4. Believers will all stand before the Judgment (Bema) seat of Christ (Romans 14:10)

5. Believers will have to give an account of his life to the Lord (Romans 14:12).

AN APPEAL TO CEASE JUDGING EACH OTHER

When a problem is persistent, one cannot say enough to deal effectively with difficulty. Hence Paul added the following words to all that he had already said.

“Therefore let us not judge one another anymore…”
Romans 14:13a

1. “Therefore”

a) This is essentially an appeal to logic.
b) Paul had been reasoning with his readers all this while.
c) It was time to bring this logical discussion to a conclusion.

2. Let us not judge one another anymore

a) The fact that this problem existed was not denied.
b) The challenge was to put an end to this persistent problem.
c) The solution is found in heeding apostolic teaching.
d) Every effort must be made to cause the problem of judging to cease permanently.
