A GLORIOUS AND PROFOUND DOXOLOGY

As Paul drew to a close to his long epistle to the Church in Rome, he concluded with a glorious and profound doxology (Romans 16:25-27). A doxology is essentially a beautiful hymn of praise, giving glory to the Lord! This doxology is worth studying in depth.

THE INSPIRATION BEHIND A DOXOLOGY

What makes a doxology deeply moving and beautiful lies in one word- “inspiration”!

1. This inspiration comes from a long and deep process of writing about God.

a) His plan of salvation (Cf. Romans 1-5)
b) His power to overcome sin (Cf.Romans 6-8)
c) His purpose for Israel (Cf. Romans 9-11)

2. The inspiration also comes from a deep and meaningful sustained faith

a) This faith-relationship began with salvation.
b) It grew with deep knowledge of God.
c) It grew further through fruitful service.
d) It reaches maturity through years of sustained relationship with God.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF A DOXOLOGY

What is the significance of a doxology? Let us ponder the following thoughts!

1. It is an ascription of glory to God.

a) It is natural desire to give glory to God.
b) It is also a conscious effort to find the right words to give glory.

2. It is in keeping with Scripture.

b) To encourage people to dwell upon all that the Lord has done.
