"Is He the God of the Jews only?"

Text: Romans 3:29

AN IMPORTANT QUESTION RAISED

Paul seemed to have focused his attention on the Jews! However, this would not be an entirely correct observation.

“Or is He the God of the Jews only?
Is He not also the God of the Gentiles?
Yes, of the Gentiles also,
since there is one God who will justify
the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised
through faith.”
Romans 3:29-30

1. Is He the God of the Jews?

Yes! He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Cf. Exodus 3:6, 15, 16)

2. But is He the God of the Jews only?

No!

3. Is He the God of the Gentiles also?

Yes!

4. There is only One God.

Hence He has to be the God of both the Jews and the Gentiles!

5. He is the only God who offers justification.

a) The doctrine of justification by faith in the Lord Jesus is peculiar to Christianity.
b) God will offer justification
i) To those who are circumcised (Jews)
ii) To those who are uncircumcised (Gentiles… generally speaking)
c) Means of justification
i) Through the exercise of faith in God as One who can and will justify.
ii) Through the exercise of faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross.

NO OTHER SYSTEM AVAILABLE

If the Jews and the Gentiles were to reject this doctrine of justification by faith, what could they offer in replacement? The answer is painfully obvious. There isn’t any other system by which sinful man may obtain redemption from God.
