Day 122

"Threw them into the house of the LORD"

Text: Zechariah 11:13

FURTHER REVELATION

The breaking of the covenant had severe consequences. Further revelation was given and it was sombre news indeed.

“And the LORD said to me, ‘Throw it to the potter’—
that princely price they set on me.
So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the LORD for the potter.
Then I cut in two my other staff, Bonds,
that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.”
Zechariah 11:13-14

1. That princely sum

a) This was spoken sarcastically.
b) The thirty pieces of silver were insulting wages given to the Good Shepherd!

2. Thrown into the house of the LORD

a) The wages were not just returned.
b) They were thrown at the feet of those who gave the wages.
c) These were in the house of the Lord.

3. A prophetic word concerning Judas Iscariot

a) Judas had agreed to betray Jesus for thirty pieces of silver (Matthew 26:14-15).
b) When he was convicted that he had betrayed “innocent blood”,
Judas threw the money at the feet of the religious leaders (Matthew 27:3-5).
c) The money was used to purchase a plot of land called “The field of blood” (Matthew 27:6-10).
d) The potter’s field became a public burial ground for those who were not well received by society (for the unknown, criminals etc).

4. “Then I cut in two my other staff, Bonds, that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel”

a) There was once unity between Israel and Judah.
b) There would also be grave and painful consequences arising from severe disunity.
