Day 25

"I will be the glory in her midst"

Text: Zechariah 2:5

FURTHER IDENTIFICATION

Who was the “angel” who commanded humble and prompt attention of the teaching angel? The following text revealed his identity further.

“‘For, I,’ says the LORD, ‘will be a wall of fire all around her,
and I will be the glory in her midst.'”
Zechariah 2:5

1. The Angel of the LORD

a) A closer study of the text would suggest that this person was the Angel of the LORD.
b) The following things may be noted:
i) The teaching angel went out to greet Him as his Superior.
ii) This Superior Being had authority to give commands to the teaching angel.

2. “‘For I,’ says the LORD”

a) No angel would have the right or the authority to speak in this manner.
b) The Angel of the LORD, the Messiah Himself would be able to speak in this manner.
c) “The LORD”
i) It is a title that the Almighty God employed.
ii) It was a title that was associated with the Angel of the LORD who met Hagar (Genesis 16:13).

3. “Will be a wall of fire all around her”

a) Only the LORD God or the Angel of the LORD could speak with such authority.
b) Walls:
i) There would be the normal physical wall which surrounded all cities.
ii) There would be a wall of fire that would give special divine protection.

4. “And I will be the glory in her midst”

a) This is an even more amazing declaration.
b) The LORD Himself would be the glory of Jerusalem and not her cities or walls!
