"And will again choose Jerusalem"

Text: Zechariah 2:12

WHO WOULD POSSESS ISRAEL?

Every conqueror likes to feel that they “possess” the nations they conquered. The Assyrians felt they possessed Israel. The Babylonians felt that they possessed Judah!

THE REAL POSSESSOR OF THE LAND

The LORD understood how people felt. He wanted to assure His people that He would possess Judah!

“And the LORD will take possession of Judah
as His inheritance in the Holy Land,
and will again choose Jerusalem.
Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD,
for He is aroused from His holy habitation!”
Zechariah 2:12-13

1. “And the LORD will take possession of Judah as His inheritance in the Holy Land”

a) The LORD God Himself

i) He will take possession of Judah.

ii) He is indeed the “Possessor of heaven and earth” (Genesis 14:19).

b) The land of Israel

i) It would be called “the Holy Land”.

ii) It would be sanctified and would belong to the LORD in this special way.

c) “And will again choose Jerusalem”

i) God once chose Jerusalem in the days of King Solomon (2 Chronicles 7:12).

ii) He would choose Jerusalem again.

2. “Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD, for He is aroused from His holy habitation”

a) All flesh must be awed into silence at this great announcement from God.

b) The LORD has been aroused from Heaven to attend to Jerusalem.

c) He would bless the people who were called by His name (2 Chronicles 7:14).
