Day 40

"Everyone will invite his neighbor"

Text: Zechariah 3:10

THE PROBLEM OF THE SIN OF IDOLATRY

Israel had never been able to resolve one major sin problem- idolatry! The LORD would address this problem too!

“Says the LORD of hosts,
‘And I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
In that day,’ says the LORD of hosts,
‘Everyone will invite his neighbour
Under his vine and under his fig tree.'”
Zechariah 3:9d-10

1.”Says the LORD of hosts, ‘And I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day'”

a) This was a very important word from the LORD of hosts.
b) The iniquity of the land:
i) Idolatry was truly “an iniquity”.
ii) It was evil in more ways than one.
c) The LORD would remove the problem of idolatry completely.
i) Israel learned many hard lessons of faith and life in captivity.
ii) One of the lessons learned was that the nation would never be idolatrous again.
d) “In that day”
i) This was an expression of decisiveness.
ii) When the remnant returned to Israel, the practice of idolatry was dead.

2. “‘In that day,’ says the LORD of hosts”

a) There was much looking forward to that day when the remnant would return.
b) That would be a reality.

3. “Everyone will invite his neighbour under his vine and under his fig tree”

a) This is a picture of peace in the land.
b) It is also a picture of prosperity.

The LORD of hosts would bless the returning remnant with both peace and prosperity.
