"Where are they carrying the basket?"

Text: Zechariah 5:10

A GOOD QUESTION

As Zechariah sought to understand the Seventh Vision, he raised a good question. This would indicate that he was learning well.

“So I said to the angel who talked with me,
‘Where are they carrying the basket?’
And he said to me, ‘To build a house for it in the land of Shinar;
when it is ready, the basket will be set there on its base.'”
Zechariah 5:10-11

1. Zechariah’s question

a) He was shown two women angelic beings carrying the basket.

b) Obviously, they were strong and swift.

c) But where was the destination of the angelic beings?

2. The answer of the teaching angel

a) They were going to bring the basket bearing Wickedness to Shinar.

b) Shinar was the location of Babylon.

3. Further explanation

a) They were going to establish a house in Shinar.

b) The basket containing Wickedness would settle there.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS VISION OF THE BASKET

1. Wickedness would be taken away from the land of Israel.

2. Wickedness would be establishing its base in Shinar.

a) Wickedness will never cease to exist on earth.

b) In God’s mercy, He may remove it from one place.

c) The angels were not responsible for establishing the base of wickedness.

d) Their work was to remove it from the presence of God’s people.
