"Before these days"

Text: Zechariah 8:10

AN IMPORTANT INSIGHT GIVEN

Spiritual insight must be given by the LORD. Without it, it would be impossible to understand the complexities of life. It would be nigh impossible to overcome problems that face the remnant as they sought to rebuild Jerusalem.

“For before these days
There were no wages for man nor any hire for beast;
There was no peace from the enemy for whoever went out or came in;
For I set all men, everyone, against his neighbour.”
Zechariah 8:10

1. “Before these days”

a) Before this word of revelation given by the Lord.

b) This would be a reference to the people who had returned earlier:

i) In the days of Ezra.

ii) In the days of Nehemiah.

iii) Before the days of Haggai and Zechariah essentially.

2. The challenging problems that surfaced

a) No wages were paid:

i) For men who worked.

ii) Owners of animals were not paid though they hired out their animals.

b) Enemies had to be faced:

i) There were enemies indeed.

ii) These had to be resisted by Nehemiah strenuously.

iii) There was “no peace”.

3. God’s part

a) He had allowed these things to happen.

b) There were lessons that God wanted to teach His people.

c) The adversities that were encountered held out many lessons to be learned.
