GOD DOES NOT CHOOSE US BASED ON OUR ACHIEVEMENTS

1. False assumption that God chooses us based on our achievements

a. Some think that God would choose them because they are wise, mighty or noble
b. On the other hand, some think that God would not choose them because they are foolish, weak, insignificant and despised in this world
c. But is God’s choice of people based on these achievements in life? No!

2. Assurance that God does not choose us based on achievements

a. The word ‘chosen’ – repeated 3 times   (1 Corinthians 1:27-28)
b. Repetition to emphasise that God still chooses us even though we have nothing much in life

GOD’S CHOOSING INVOLVES HIS CALLING

1. Understanding the concept of a calling   (1 Corinthians 1:26)

a. Sometimes the concept of a calling can seem very lofty
b. But a calling is not only reserved for certain people
c. A calling is simply an invitation from God, and it is given to all who are chosen

2. Our general calling from God – to love, know and follow Him

3. One special area of calling – to help people see that there is no credit to be given to themselves when God chooses   (1 Corinthians 1:29)

a. When God calls us to be His people, God uses us to show others that God does not choose us based on human achievements
b. You do not need to be a “somebody” to believe in God
c. We become a living testimony of this wonderful truth

GOD CHOOSES US IN CHRIST

1. God’s choosing of us is found in Christ alone   (1 Corinthians 1:30)

2. In Christ, we can have the following:

a. Wisdom – when we are in Christ, He helps us to become wiser
b. Righteousness – He gives us His own righteousness to stand before God
c. Sanctification – He slowly changes us to become holy
d. Redemption – He redeemed us from our sins with His life

OUR RESPONSE AS GOD’S CHOSEN

1. To be thankful that God would choose us to be His people, regardless of our achievements

2. To appreciate this calling that we have been given as God’s chosen people

3. To cherish Christ as our all in all because we have been chosen in Him
