GOALS

1. To learn to exercise faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. To renew and strengthen our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
3. To cope well with the challenges in life.

INTRODUCTION

1. “Faith”

a) “Faith” is believing in the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) “Faith” is something we all need to find for ourselves
c) “Faith” is to be exercised in our day to day lives.

2. Things that challenge our faith in God.

a) There are testing in life.
b) Sometimes fear comes in when we face difficult circumstances in life.

3. The example of a faith that is tested/ challenged

a) The Bible recorded many stories where we can learn about “faith” that can help us cope with difficult circumstances in our lives.
b) One of the stories we read is of a man named Jairus whose faith was tested/challenged (Mark 5:21-43; Luke 8:40-56; Matthew 9:18-26).

A. COMING TO JESUS IN FAITH (Mark 5:21-23)

a) Jairus came to Jesus in faith with a desperate need.
i. He fell at His feet and begged Him earnestly for help.
ii. Because his only little daughter was at the point of death.
b) He urgently requested Jesus to help him (Mark 5:23)
i. Jairus had nothing else to trust except Jesus.
ii. He came to Jesus as his only hope.
iii. He believed that Jesus could heal his daughter.
c) The graciousness of Jesus (Mark 5:24)
i. He went with him straight away.
ii. He was willing to help.

B. CHALLENGE OF FAITH (Mark 5:25-35)

a) Healing of a woman with an issue of a flow of blood (verses 25-34)
i. This incident occurred along the way.
ii. It even delayed them for some time.
b) A report came to Jairus as he drew nearer to his home (verse 35)
i. His daughter was already dead
ii. He was told that he should not bother the Lord further
iii. The death of his daughter was confirmed (verses 38-40).
c) Jairus had to learn how to trust the Lord even more!
i. He came to Jesus in faith, but his faith was challenged and tested along the way.
ii. We are not told how Jairus dealt with the situation.
iii. Perhaps he was struggling because it would not be that easy being in such situation.

C. ENCOURAGEMENT TO EXERCISE FAITH (Mark 5:35-40)

a) Fear must be overcome “Do not be afraid” (Mark 5:36)
b) Focus on believing “only believe” (Mark 5:36)
c) Promise of healing given “and she will be made well.” (Luke 8:50)

D. EXPERIENCING SIGNIFICANT RESULT BECAUSE OF FAITH IN THE LORD JESUS (Mark 5:41-43)

a) His daughter was restored to life.
b) It was a life changing experience that cannot be forgotten so easily.
c) Jesus could not only heal sickness/diseases but He also had the power and authority to give life.

APPLICATION

1. Jairus had learned a great lesson of what it means to exercise faith in God.
2. What Jairus had experienced could be ours too, if we learn to exercise faith in God.

CONCLUSION

1. Let us come to Jesus in faith with whatever circumstances we are in and continue to exercise faith in God even when our faith in God is challenged or tested. So that, we will sooner or later experience significant results because of faith in the Lord Jesus.
2. Let us not be afraid but only believe in the Lord Jesus Christ!
