I HAVE BOTH GLORIFIED IT AND WILL GLORIFY IT AGAIN.

(I) THE CONTEXT OF THE PRONOUNCEMENT TO GLORIFY THE FATHER’S NAME

1. The preoccupation of Jesus… Being glorified in His death

“But Jesus answered them, saying, ‘The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.’ ” John 12:23

“Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.” John 12:27

2. The prayer of Jesus…glorifying His Father’s name

” ‘Father, glorify Your name.’ …” John 12:28

(II) THE COMMITMENT OF THE FATHER TO GLORIFY HIS NAME

“…‘I have both glorified it’…” John 12:28

1. Dedicated to the glorifying of His name in the past

2. Through the life and ministry of Jesus

(III) THE CONTINUED PLAN OF GLORIFYING HIS NAME

“…‘and will glorify it again.’ ” John 12:28

1. A plan to glorify His name in the future

2. Through the death of the Lord Jesus

(IV) THE CONSIDERATION OF THE FATHER IN GIVING THIS PRONOUNCEMENT TO GLORIFY HIS NAME

1. An answer to the Lord’s prayer

“…Then a voice came from heaven, saying…” John 12:28

2. Approval

“And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, ‘You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.’ ” Luke 3: 22

“While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” Matthew 17:5

(V) THE CHALLENGE TO GIVE GLORY TO THE FATHER’S NAME

“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” John 12:24
“He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.”
John 12:25

“If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honour.” John 12:26
