(II) CONTEXT OF MAKING THIS VOW

1. A most trying time of life

a) The heart is overwhelmed ( Psalm 61:2b )

b) “End of the earth” feeling ( Psalm 61:2a )

c) Trouble from enemies ( Psalm 61:3b )

2. Crying out to God

a) Praying to God ( Psalm 61:1 )

b) Believing in God

i) As a shelter ( Psalm 61:3a, 4b )

ii) As a strong tower ( Psalm 61:3b )

3. Experiencing God’s deliverance

a) God had heard David’s vow (prayer) ( Psalm 61:5a )

b) He had answered and given to him a heritage of those who fear His name ( Psalm 61:5b )

i) God will preserve life ( Psalm 61:6a )

ii) He will grant mercy and truth ( Psalm 61:7b )

(III) A CHALLENGE TO MAKE A COMMITMENT TO SING PRAISES TO GOD

1. To be made with faith

2. To be made with prayer

3. To be made with understanding

4. To be made with gratitude for what God has done for us
