PROBLEMS IN LIFE

1. There will always be problems in life

2. An example of one who faced many problems – David

3. How his problems affected him

a. Grief   (Psalm 31:10)
b. Sighing   (Psalm 31:10)
c. Strength fails   (Psalm 31:10)
d. Broken   (Psalm 31:12)
e. Despair (“cut off from your eyes”)   (Psalm 31:22)

4. David’s answer to these problems – trust

DAVID’S EXERCISE OF TRUST IN GOD

1. He chose to trust in God

“In You, O Lord, I put my trust”   Psalm 31:1
a. Being conscious of who God is
i. A rock of refuge
ii. A fortress of defense
b. This formed David’s basis of trust in God

2. He trusted God with a sense of conviction

“But I trust in the Lord”   Psalm 31:6
a. In contrast with those who sought after idols
b. David distanced himself from them
c. He also recalled times when God delivered him   (Psalm 31:7-8)

3. He continued to trust in God

But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord   (Psalm 31:14)
a. In spite of how difficult it was, David held on
b. His trust in God: “My times are in your hands”
i. No matter what happens
ii. God is in control – he is in His hands

4. The change that came as he trusted in God

“Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men!”   Psalm 31:19
a. There was renewal of faith in God
b. There was also a renewal of
i. Love   (Psalm 31:23)
ii. Strength   (Psalm 31:24)
