THE WORKS OF THE LORD ARE GREAT

 

(I) A DEEP APPRECIATION OF THE GREAT WORKS OF GOD

“The works of the Lord are great, studied by all who have pleasure in them.” Psalm 111:2

1. Great works of God should be studied by all

a) Great things are meant for us to study…to see how amazing they are

b) Especially the great works of God…much for us to learn from and to appreciate


2. We should have pleasure in them

a) Great pleasure in experiencing these great works

b) Great pleasure in understanding these great works

c) Great pleasure in knowing the God of these great works

 

(II) THE HIGHEST CHARACTER OF THE WORKS OF GOD

1. Great (Psalm 111:2)

2. Honorable (Psalm 111:3)

3. Glorious (Psalm 111:3)

4. Wonderful (Psalm 111:4)

5. Powerful (Psalm 111:6)

6. Verity (Psalm 111:7)

7. Justice (Psalm 111:7)

 

(III) THE AWESOME ATTRIBUTES OF GOD THAT ARE BEHIND HIS GREAT WORKS

1. His righteousness (Psalm 111:3)

2. His graciousness (Psalm 111:4)

3. His compassion (Psalm 111:4)

 

(IV) THE BASIS OF THE FULFILMENT OF THE GREAT WORKS OF GOD

1. Fulfilled based on the word of God

a) Sure (Psalm 111:7)

b) Stand fast (Psalm 111:8)

c) Truth (Psalm 111:8)

d) Uprightness (Psalm 111:8)


2. Fulfilled based on the covenant of God

a) The promise of redemption was fulfilled

“He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever: Holy and awesome is His name.” Psalm 111:9

i) Redemption from Egypt

ii) As commanded by His covenant

b) The promise of a heritage was fulfilled

“He has given food to those who fear Him; He will ever be mindful of His covenant. He has declared to His people the power of His works, in giving them the heritage of the nations.” Psalm 111:5, 6

i) Sustaining Israel through the wilderness

ii) Through His power, He fulfilled the promise of the heritage of the promise land

 

(V) APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

1. To be remembered

“He has made His wonderful works to be remembered” Psalm 111:4


2. To fear the Lord

“He has given food to those who fear Him” Psalm 111:6

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” Ps 111:10


3. To have good understanding

“A good understanding have all those who do His commandments.” Psalm 111:10


4. To give praise

a) Whole heartedly

“Praise the Lord! I will praise the Lord with my whole heart” Psalm 111:1

b) Corporately

“In the assembly of the upright and in the congregation.” Psalm 111:1

c) Always

“His praise endures forever.” Psalm 111:10
