Text: Isaiah 25
24 January 2010
(I) THE EXTRAORDINARY PROMISES OF THE LORD CONCERNING THE MESSIANIC KINGDOM
1. In the mountain
“And in this mountain…” Isaiah 25:6, 7, 10
2. A grand feast
“And in this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all people a feast of choice pieces, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of well-refined wines on the lees.” Isaiah 25:6
3. He will destroy the veil of death
“And He will destroy on this mountain the surface of the covering cast over all people, and the veil that is spread over all nations.” Isaiah 25:7
4. He will destroy death
“He will swallow up death forever,” Isaiah 25:8
5. He will wipe away all tears
“And the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces;” Isaiah 25:8
6. He will no longer be rebuke
“The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth;” Isaiah 25:8
7. He will fulfill all that He has spoken
“For the LORD has spoken.” Isaiah 25:8
(II) THE EXECUTING OF JUDGEMENT BY THE HAND OF THE LORD
1. The hand of the Lord will bring about judgment in the Messianic Kingdom
“For on this mountain the hand of the LORD will rest, and Moab shall be trampled down under Him, as straw is trampled down for the refuse heap.” Isaiah 25:10
a) The hand of the Lord executes judgment
b) Moab is a reference to all nations that are proud.
2. The Lord’s hand will be spread through out
“And He will spread out His hands in their midst as a swimmer reaches out to swim,” Isaiah 25:11
3. Dealing with their pride problem
“And He will bring down their pride together with the trickery of their hands.” Isaiah 25:11
4. The Lord will humble us
“The fortress of the high fort of your walls He will bring down, lay low, and bring to the ground, down to the dust.” Isaiah 25:12
(III) THE EXTENT OF WAITING ON THE LORD FOR THE MESSIANIC KINGDOM
1. A declaration of waiting on the Lord
a) In the day of the Messianic kingdom
“And it will be said in that day:” Isaiah 25:9
b) This is a future declaration
2. Standing in awe of who the Lord is
“Behold, this is our God;” Isaiah 25:9
“This is the LORD;” Isaiah 25:9
a) We will be able to behold all the Lord in His glory
b) We can appreciate all that He had promised to do in the Messianic Kingdom.
3. The great extent of waiting on the Lord
“We have waited for Him, and He will save us.” Isaiah 25:9
“We have waited for Him; we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.” Isaiah 25:9
a) These promises will only be fulfilled in the Messianic Kingdom
b) The kingdom would seem a great distance away still for the people of Israel to wait
c) Even today, we have not seen the fulfillment of these promises
d) The challenge is still to believe despite it’s future and distant fulfillment
(IV) EXPRESSING OUR FAITH AS WE WAIT ON THE LORD
1. Be assured of the promises of the Lord in His kingdom
2. Live with these promises in mind
3. Exaltation and praise to the Lord
“O Lord, You are my God. I will exalt You, I will praise Your name, for You have done wonderful things, your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.” Isaiah 25:1
4. Be faithful in waiting
“We have waited for Him, and He will save us.” Isaiah 25:9
