SING PRAISES TO GOD, SING PRAISES
Text: Psalm 47

(I) THE CALL TO SING GLORIOUS PRAISES TO GOD
“Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!” Psalm 47:6
1. The call to focus on God as King as we sing
a) General idea – God
b) Specific personal – Our King
2. The call to sing to God is emphasized
3. The call to for all people to sing (Psalm 47:1)
(II) THE MANNER TO SING GLORIOUS PRAISES TO GOD
1. With joyful clapping of hands (Psalm 47:1)
2. With exuberant shouts of praise (Psalm 47:1)
3. With a triumphant spirit (Psalm 47:1)
4. With a depth of understanding (Psalm 47:7)
(III) ONE OF THE CAUSATIVE FACTORS TO PRAISE GOD – THE SOVEREIGN RULE OF GOD
1. The present universal aspect of God’s sovereignty
a) By virtue of His supreme title
“Lord Most High…” Psalm 47:2
b) By virtue of His scope of rule
“He is the great King over all the earth…” Psalm 47:2
2. The Spiritual visualization of God’s sovereignty
“God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of trumpet in heaven” Psalm 47:5
a) A picture of an enthronement scene
b) God as king walking up to His throne victoriously
3. The prophetic future aspect of God’s sovereignty
a) God’s sovereign reign over the earth (Millennium kingdom)
“God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne.” Psalm 47:8
b) All nations belonging to Him
“The princes of the people have gathered together, the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; He is greatly exalted.” Psalm 47:8-9
c) The Lord’s reward
i) The Lord establishing His people to rule over nations
“He will subdue the peoples under us, and nations under our feet…” Psalm 47:3
ii) The Lord giving His people their inheritance
“He will choose our inheritance for us, the excellence of Jacob whom He loves.” Psalm 47:4
(IV) THE CHALLENGE TO SING GLORIOUS PRAISE TO GOD
1. With a great sense of awe
2. With absolute trust in God’s sovereignty
3. With forward looking faith
