CALL TO ME AND I WILL ANSWER YOU
Text: Jeremiah 33
28 December 2014
DEEPER REALMS OF PRAYER
Jeremiah the prophet was very much given to prayer. In fact when he prayed he often shed tears. He was thus called “the weeping prophet.” Yet, God challenges His prophet to “call to Him” (Jeremiah 33:3).
Obviously this challenge to prayer was not about making general prayers. God was challenging Jeremiah to enter into deeper realms of prayer.
Call to Me, and I will answer you,
And show you great and mighty things which you do not know.
Jeremiah 33:3
“CALL TO ME”
This was God’s word to Jeremiah. What did God mean when the prophet Jeremiah was already a man of prayer?
1. There were times when Jeremiah showed that he was perplexed in prayer
a) He could not understand why Jerusalem must fall
b) He could not understand why God would cause Judah to go into captivity
2. There were times when Jeremiah despaired
a) Of his life’s circumstances
b) Of his imprisonment (Jeremiah 32)
3. God’s word to Jeremiah
a) To call upon the Lord with greater faith
b) To call out to the Lord with greater confidence
“AND I WILL ANSWER YOU”
This was God’s promise to Jeremiah. The prayer efforts of the prophet would not be in vain.
1. God will answer all prayers
2. His answers may not be as we hope they would be though
“AND SHOW YOU GREAT AND MIGHTY THINGS WHICH YOU DO NOT KNOW”
All too often we limit God as to what we think He can do. Jeremiah was no exception. God’s word to him was that He would reveal mighty things to him!
1. And show you
a) God will reveal Himself
b) God will give glimpses of what He would do
2. Great and mighty things
a) God’s works would always be greater than we can perceive
b) He can indeed show us great and mighty things beyond our present comprehension
3. Which you do not know
a) Let us admit that we are limited in many ways
b) Let us dare to believe that God can effectively reveal great things which we do not know presently
GEARING OURSELVES FOR 2015
Let us gear ourselves for the New Year ahead of us. Let us make prayer a greater part of our life. Let us ask the Lord to truly show us great and mighty things that we do not know!
