OH, SING TO THE LORD A NEW SONG

SINGING TO THE LORD

The Psalmists were deeply convinced that God loves music. And there are reasons why they have reached this conclusion.

1. God created mankind with an inclination to music

a) This does not mean that everyone is musically talented

b) But even if one does not have the privilege of musical training, an appreciation
of good music is latent within the soul

c) Thus some have written great music that have blessed the hearts of many through the years

2. Singing was highlighted as a special means of worshiping the Lord

The following text exemplifies this truth!

Oh, sing to the LORD a new song!
Sing to the LORD, all the earth.

Sing to the LORD, bless His name;
Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

Declare His glory among the nations,
His wonders among all peoples. Psalm 96:1-3

a) A new song

i) The Psalmist was urging composers to come up with a new song to be written and sung

ii) It would require inspiration to come up with new songs

iii) New musical scores would have to be written

iv) These songs would have to be learned well

v) They may then be presented as a special song item to the Lord in
worship


THE FOCUS OF SINGING

The focus is always “The Lord!” The following are some things that could inspire the writing of new songs:-

1. The name of God

2. The good news of His salvation

3. His glory

4. His wonders

These are powerful themes. Let them inspire us to compose and sing new songs to the Lord! He is truly worthy of all our efforts to worship Him!
