I AM THE LORD

THE TITLES OF THE LORD

Isaiah lists the most number of titles of the Lord. Here is a sample list. These titles were employed for good reason.

  1. I am God                                    Isaiah 43:12
  2. The LORD                                  Isaiah 43:14
  3. Your Redeemer                         Isaiah 43:14
  4. The Holy One of Israel            Isaiah 43:14
  5. The Creator of Israel               Isaiah 43:15
  6. Your King                                  Isaiah 43:15
  7. The LORD of hosts                  Isaiah 44:6
  8. I am the First and the Last    Isaiah 44:6

INTENDED MEANING

What were some of the reasons why these titles were employed?

 

  1. Instruction

    a) Israel needed to learn deep lessons about God

    b) These titles were highly instructive

    i) They revealed the Being of God

    ii) They reveal His divine attributes

  2. Inspiration

    a) These titles are awe-inspiring

    b) They were designed to inspire Israel

    i) To know God better

    ii) To trust more deeply

    iii) To return to Him in humble contrition

    iv) To renew relationship with God

    v) To encourage the development of a relationship with God

OUR CHALLENGE TODAY       
There are lessons for us to learn today as well. Three may be highlighted:-

  1. Know God better
  2. Have a greater faith
  3. Live more consciously of being servants of the Lord.
