DIFFERENT TYPES OF PSALMS

There are different types of Psalms! Here is a short list of the kinds of Psalms we can find in the Book of Psalms.

  1. Praise (Psalm 103)
  1. Prayer (Psalm 5)
  1. Penitential (Psalm 51)
  1. Didactic-Historical (Psalm 78)

ROYAL PSALMS

There is another type of Psalm that we must look at. Psalm 24 is one of the Royal Psalms. The following are special features of the Royal Psalms.

  1. The subject

The Lord God as the King. Hence the term, “Royal Psalm.”

  1. Different aspects about the King may be listed: –

a. His attributes

b. His mighty deeds

c. His relationship with His subjects

FOCUSING ON THE GLORY OF THE KING

Psalm 24 focuses on the glory of the King of Heaven!

                                    Lift up your heads, O you gates!

                                    And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!

                                    And the King of glory shall come in.

 

                                    Who is this King of glory?

                                    The LORD strong and mighty,

                                    The LORD mighty in battle.

 

                                    Lift up your heads, O you gates!

                                    Lift up, you everlasting doors!

                                    And the King of glory shall come in.

                                    Who is this King of glory?

                                    The LORD of hosts,

                                    He is the King of glory. Psalm 24:7-10

 

  1. Four times

The phrase “King of glory” is mentioned four times over!

a. This is an attempt at giving adoration to the Lord

b. The Psalmist stands in awe of the Lord as the Divine King

  1. The Title-Names of the King

a. The LORD

b. The LORD of hosts

  1. His attributes

a. Strong and mighty

b. Mighty in battle

Let us learn how we ought to receive this great and mighty King of glory in our heart! May our hearts be truly open fully to this glorious LORD!
