A SOBERING AWARENESS OF A WICKED WORLD

Text: Psalm 10

A SOBERING MEDITATION

The Psalmist pondered the problem of wicked people perpetrating all kinds of evil deeds. A short list of the deeds of the wicked: –

  1. With reference to the Lord

a. He renounces the Lord

b. He does not seek God

c. God is in none of his thoughts

  1. With reference to his deeds

a. He sneers at people

b. His mouth is full of cursing

c. He practises deceit

d. He oppresses people

HOW MAY THE GODLY RESPOND?

The following thoughts are to be noted: –

  1. He should pray to the Lord

a. Asking Him to arise and deal with the wicked

b. Pleading with Him to root out all wickedness

  1. He should exercise trust in the Lord

a. That He is a Helper of the fatherless

b. That the LORD is King forever and eve

c. That God will hear and answer prayers

d. That God would uphold justice for the fatherless and the oppressed

THE TIMES WE LIVE IN

Our present world is not very different from the world of the Psalmist.

  1. Evil

There is much evil in the world. And many fear that evil will prevail and cause even greater suffering.

  1. Deliver us from the Evil One

Let us ask the Lord to deliver from the Evil One, for he instigates people to do that which is evil.

  1. Determination to do our part

a. To grow in our faith

b. To grow stronger

c. To put on the whole armour of God

d. To enter into spiritual warfare!

Let us not fail to do what is right in the fear of the Lord! Let us live good and righteous lives that will truly glorify God’s name!
