“KEEP ME AS THE APPLE OF YOUR EYE”

PRECIOUS TRUTHS DISCOVERED

Many precious await discovery when we read the Scriptures with devotion. The Psalmist David discovered much about the Lord and wrote about it in Psalm 17. The following may be highlighted: –

  1. David knew God as “The LORD”

a. This was a covenantal title of God

b. In this covenant relationship the Lord would regard believers as His people

  1. He believed that the Lord would do the following things for those who trust in Him

a. He would hear the cry of His people Psalm 17:6

b. He will show His marvelous kindness Psalm 17:7

c. He will confront the wicked Psalm 17:13

d. He will cast them down Psalm 17:13

e. Some of the activities of the wicked

i. Their hearts are closed Psalm 17:10

ii. They speak proudly Psalm 17:10

iii. They are like predator lions Psalm 17:12

TRUSTING THE LORD GOD

King David found great comfort in his heart when he prayed to the Lord. He exercised much trust in the Lord. Two things he bore in mind: –

  1. He refrained from doing evil

a. He would not transgress with his mouth Psalm 17:3

b. He has kept away from the paths of those who destroy Psalm 17:4

  1. He trusted that God would not fail to hear and answer according to His will

a. God will incline His ear to prayers offered Psalm 17;6

b. He will save those who trust in Him Psalm 17:7

c. He will protect His people Psalm 17:8

  1. A special prayer made

Keep me as the apple of Your eye;

                                    Hide me under the shadow of Your wings

                                    From the wicked who oppress me,

                                    From my deadly enemies who surround me.   Psalm 17:8

Let us seek to increase our knowledge of God. Let us also deepen our faith and trust in Him even as we pray!
