THE MULTITUDE OF YOUR MERCY

Text: Psalm 5

THE THEME OF “GODS’S MERCY”

This theme was touched upon in many Psalms. The following text is just one example.

But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude

Of Your mercy;

In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.     Psalm 5:7

SOME EXPRESSIONS OF GOD’S MERCY

Let us look at some of the expressions of God’s mercy in Psalm 5.

  1. That God would receive prayers

a)  The Psalmist David was confident that God would hear prayers

b)  Hence he directed his prayers to the Lord (the first thing in the morning)

2. Those who know and trust in the Lord

a) They know that He is righteous

b) They know about how merciful He is

c) They know that God would defend them

d) That God would bless the righteous

e) That God would grant them His favour

f) That God would protect them with a shield

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE TO THE LORD

Let us learn from the Psalmist David how we may make appropriate responses to the Lord. Four things may be highlighted: –

  1. Coming to the Lord’s House

a) Going to the Lord’s House was a natural inclination

b) May we never tire of desiring to go to the Lord’s House

c) May we have a deepening love for the House of the Lord

  1. The multitude of God’s mercy

a) The above list of expressions of mercy is not exhaustive

b) The mercy of God is too huge to fully describe

c) The challenge is to cultivate a great sense of consciousness of God’s mercy

  1. In fear of You

a) Let us cultivate a sense of holy fear for the Lord

b) May we always be reverent towards the Lord

c) Thus will our worship be accepted

  1. I will worship

a) Offering worship to the Lord should be our heartfelt response

b) Let us determine that we will always offer grateful worship to the Lord our God
