JESHURUN, WHOM I HAVE CHOSEN

REPEATED PHRASES

The concept of being “chosen” is a very deep and precious concept. It is not tio be taken lightly. The word “chosen” was repeatedly used.

But you, Israel, are My servant,

Jacob whom I have chosen.                            Isaiah 41:8

 

You are My witnesses, says the LORD,

And My servant whom I have chosen. Isaiah 43:10

 

 Yet hear now, O Jacob My servant,

And Israel whom I have chosen.                     Isaiah 44:1

 

Fear not, Jacob, My servant;

And you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.       Isaiah 44:2

 THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THESE REPEATED PHRASES

What is the significance of these repeated phrases? Let us ponder the following thoughts: –

  1. To highlight the special act of God in choosing Israel to be His servant

a) To be chosen is an astounding truth

b) This thought was repeated so that it would be embedded in the heart and mind

  1. To give encouragement

a) To allay anxieties of life

b) To dispel feelings of fear and dismay amidst hardship

c) To bring joy to the heart

  1. To reaffirm

a) God’s relationship with His people was firm

b) He would not forsake His people

c) He would be there to strengthen and to bless

  1. To encourage appropriate response to the Lord

a) To be His witnesses

b) To serve Him

c) To worship the Lord

d) To break away from idolatrous worship

e) To live for the Lord victoriously

JESHURUN

This may be understood as a pet name of the Lord given to Israel. The use of this name was to indicate the tender affection that God held for His people! What a great and wonderful truth it is to know that we are the chosen people of the Lord!
