Text: Hebrews 1

THE CAPTAIN OF OUR SALVATION
We have a glorious Captain of our salvation in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ! Let’s take time to ponder the following text.
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels,
For the suffering of death crowned with glory and honour,
That He by the grace of God might taste death for everyone. Hebrews 2:9
- But we see Jesus
a) We are challenged to look at the Person called Jesus
b) And to consider what He has done
- Who was made a little lower than the angels
a) This is a description of Jesus in His humanity
b) Humanity is described as a rung lower than the angels of God
i) We have severe human limitations
ii) We are far less in power and ability compared to angels
- For the suffering of death
a) The focus here is two-fold
i) Suffering of the Lord Jesus
ii) Death of the Lord Jesus
b) He had come with a definite purpose
i) He did not have to suffer for His own sins for He had none
ii) He chose to suffer and die for the redemption of mankind
- That He might taste death for everyone
a) Death is the penalty of sin against God
b) The only way to escape is through the atonement that Jesus made for us
c) What a wonderful Saviour we have in the Lord Jesus Christ
BY THE GRACE OF GOD
The emphasis on grace is correct and precious!
- It is by grace that we can have salvation in the Lord
- It is by grace that Christ Jesus tasted death for us
This is the Captain of our salvation! Those who believe in Him are called the children of God. The Captain of our salvation will lead us into glory! Let us treasure this salvation we have offered to us!
