THE CHALLENGE OF BEING A WRITER
Four Gospels were written about the Life and Ministry of Jesus the Nazareth. The following things may be observed about these four writers: –
- Matthew
He was a tax collector but he was called to be an Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ!
- Mark
Not much was known about him except that he became the spiritual son of the Apostle Peter.
- Luke
He was a medical doctor, but he was not an original Disciple. He was never made an apostle.
- John
He was originally a fisherman but followed the Lord Jesus Christ and became “the disciple whom Jesus loved.” He was an apostle of the Lord!
None of them was professionally trained to be a writer! Yet, each one’s work has made tremendous impact on millions of devout and faithful believers!
WHAT MADE THESE PEOPLE WANT TO WRITE?
It is always interesting to know what makes people want to write! The following things may be noted: –
- They did not write for profit
a) The books they wrote were not for sale
b) They did not write for commercial purposes
- Why then did they write?
a) Because they had come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ
i) This faith was worth sharing
ii) Their own lives had been deeply touched and wonderfully transformed
iii) They wanted to share this salvation that they had experienced
b) Because of what they Had come to know about Jesus of Nazareth
i) He had profound teachings to offer
ii) He was sent as the Messiah of God
iii) He had come to be the Saviour
iv) He was Lord too
THE NEW PULPIT THEME
We will be studying the Book of Hebrews. In this wonderful Epistle, the author sought to present the Lord Jesus Christ as the Captain of our Salvation. Let us seek to deepen our knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ!
