ASCRIBE STRENGTH TO GOD

Text: Psalm 69

THE PROMISE OF STRENGTH

Thank God we have many repeated promises from the Scriptures that God would give us the strength we need for the various circumstances of our life.

Ascribe strength to God;

His excellence is over Israel,

And His strength is in the clouds.

O God, You are more awesome than Your holy places.

The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to His people.     Psalm 68:34-35 

  1. His strength is in the clouds

a) This is a poetic saying

i)  The clouds are high above

ii) The strength that we draw from is in region way above our heads

b) The challenge

i)  To discover this strength from God

ii) To find that His strength is available to us to cope with life’s many challenges

  1. He gives strength and power to His people

a) Strength and power are described in the same phrase

b) Strength is power!

c) His people will find that God will give them the needed strength to cope in life

THE HOLY PLACES

The Holy Places is an expression that describes certain “sacred sites.” Three may be cited.

  1. Mount Sinai
  1. Jerusalem
  1. The Tabernacle/The Temple

a) The Tabernacle- In the days of David

b) The Temple- In the days of Solomon

People made pilgrimages and in those places found inspiration and renewed strength. 

YOU ARE MORE AWESOME

David the Psalmist declares that God Himself is more awesome than any “Holy Place.”

  1. A strong personal relationship with God brings needed inspiration
  1. A solid faith in God brings forth strength in life and ministry

Let us be challenged to discover much-needed strength from the Lord! Let the New Year begin with a determination to find strength in God and to ascribe it to Him!
