BLESSED ARE THE PEOPLE

Text: Psalm 89

HOW BLESSED WE ARE!

Let us take time to reflect on how truly blessed we are as the people who belong to God!

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;

Mercy and truth go before Your face. 

Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!

They walk, O LORD, in the light of Your countenance. 

In Your name they rejoice all day long,

And in Your righteousness they are exalted. 

For You are their glory and strength;

And in Your favour our horn is exalted. 

For our shield belongs to the LORD,

And our king to the Holy One of Israel.     Psalm 89:14-18  

WHEREIN LIES OUR BLESSING?

Let us ponder the wisdom captured by the Psalmist Ethan the Ezrahite!

  1. It is found in the Lord God Himself

a) In His righteousness

b) In His justice

c) In His mercy

d) In His truth

e) In the light of His countenance

f) In His name

g) In His favour

  1. It is expressed and evidenced most definitely

a) God has given so much joy

b) He gives glory and strength

c) He grants favour that our horn (“power”) may be exalted

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

Let us consider some basic ways we can respond to the Lord’s blessings. Three things may be highlighted: –

  1. Let us know “the joyful sound”
  1. Let us walk in the light of His countenance
  1. Let us rejoice all day long

Let us truly and fully rejoice in the Lord our God who has blessed us so abundantly! Let us walk with joyous confidence with the Lord always!
