PARTAKERS OF THE HEAVENLY CALLING

Text: Hebrews 3:1-2

THE DIVINE CALL FROM HEAVEN

God’s call to mankind originates from Heaven and thus it may be described as a “Heavenly Calling”. We are presented with Jesus as the clear and perfect example of One who responded to this Heavenly Calling.

Therefore, holy brethren,

Partakers of the heavenly calling,

Consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession,

Christ Jesus,

Who was faithful to Him who appointed Him,

As Moses also was faithful in all His house.     Hebrews 3:1-2

  1. Holy brethren

a) This is a description of all true believers

b) We are called “holy brethren”

i) We are declared holy in God’s sight

ii) We are brethren of the Lord Jesus Christ

  1. Partakers of the heavenly calling

a) Jesus was certainly a partaker of this heavenly calling

b) Moses was also a partaker of this glorious calling

c) We are also partakers of this holy calling from Heaven

THE GLORIOUS EXAMPLE OF JESUS

We have the classic example of Jesus to carefully consider as we ponder how we may respond to this Heavenly Calling appropriately.

  1. Jesus is called “The Apostle”

a) The key idea here is found in the word “sent”

b) Jesus was conscious of being sent by God

My food is to do the work of Him who sent Me.

And to finish His work.     John 4:34

I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day,

The night is coming when no one can work.     John 9:4

  1. Who was faithful to Him who appointed Him

a) Jesus was faithful to the Heavenly Calling

b) Our challenge is to be found faithful too

Let us seek to comprehend the Heavenly Calling that God has given to us. Let us seek to be faithful to the Lord always!
