TO THIS YOU WERE CALLED

Text: 1 Peter 2:18-25

THE EXAMPLE OF THE LORD JESUS

The most glorious example of answering God’s Call is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. The Apostle Peter also wrote about fulfilling our Calling.

For to this you were called,

Because Christ also suffered for us,

Leaving us an example,

That you should follow His steps.     1 Peter 2:21

1. For to this you were called

a) In this context, the Call was suffering for the sake of the Gospel

b) Many are afraid of pain and suffering

c) Thus, this word was written to encourage believers not to be afraid

2. Christ also suffered for us

a) Jesus was Called to become our Saviour

i)   He obeyed His Father

ii)  He took on humanity`

b) In order to fulfil that Call, He would have to suffer

i)   Misunderstanding

ii)  Resistance

iii) Physical suffering

iv) Cruelty

v)  Finally, death on the Cross at Calvary

3. Leaving us an example that we should follow His steps

a) An example of faithfulness

b) An example of courage

c) An example of full obedience 

d) An example of complete trust in then Lord

OUR CHALLENGE

Let us thank God that we are given the privilege of a Divine Call too. We are partakers of this same wonderful Call from God. Let us seek to fulfil the Lord’s Calling faithfully.
