PROBLEMS IN LIFE

There will be many problems in life. This was something that David discovered even when he rose from a humble shepherd to become the king in Israel. What were some of his problems? Three categories may be highlighted:

  1. Threat of war from enemy nations
  1. Betrayal within the kingdom
  1. Personal and familial problems

Some of his problems never quite went away. His enemies dogged his footsteps at every corner. How did David cope with his pressing problems?

FACING THE PROBLEMS OF LIFE EFFECTIVELY

David had to learn how to face his problems effectively. Psalm 9 gives us a glimpse of how he faced his problems effectively.

  1. He had knowledge and faith in the Lord

a) Knowledge of the Lord as Judge

i)   God was on His throne

ii)  He judges all mankind righteously

iii) He will destroy the wicked

b) Faith in the Lord

i)   As the Lord who will endure forever

ii)  He will uphold His justice in uprightness

iii) He will be a refuge for the oppressed in times of trouble

iv) He will never forsake those who seek Him

v)  He will not forget the cry of the humble

  1. He cultivated an appropriate response to the Lord

a) He will be glad in the Lord

b) He will rejoice in Him

c) He will sing praised to the Lord with his whole heart

d) He will proclaim the wonderful deeds of God among his people

OUR CHALLENGE AS WE COMMENCE THE NEW YEAR          

Let us recognize that there will always be problems in life. There may be health challenges. There may be financial problems. But we can still face life with great courage and faith in the Lord.

This faith in God will enable us to trust in Him. A strong faith will enable us to sing in the dark times of life! Let us choose how are going to face challenges in life in 2019!
