TO SEE YOUR POWER AND GLORY

A TERRIBLE MOMENT IN LIFE

There was a time when the Psalmist David fled to the wilderness of Judah to escape the plots of his enemies. The wilderness caused his soul to turn to the Lord.

O God, You are my God;

Early will I seek You;

My soul thirsts for You;

My flesh longs for You

In a dry and thirsty land

Where there is no water.

So I have looked for You in the sanctuary,

To see Your power and Your glory.      Psalm 63:1-2

  1. The wilderness of Judah was in the background

a) It was well described

b) It was “a dry and thirsty land”

  1. Parched

a) David felt parched and dry physically

b) He also felt dry and parched spiritually

SEEKING GOD EARNESTLY

David sought God earnestly. This was always the way he had learned to seek the Lord.

  1. Three expressions that describe why David sought God earnestly

a) The word “early”

b) The phrase “thirsts for You”

c) The phrase “longs for You”

  1. The dryness of the body and soul

a) It is natural for one who is thirsty to earnestly seek water to quench the thirst

b) It is natural for the soul to seek the Lord in times of dryness

WHAT WAS DAVID LOOKING FOR?

David sought the following things:

  1. The LORD Himself
  1. He sought the power of the Lord
  1. He also sought the glory of the Lord

Both power and glory are closely tied to the Person of God. To understand God at all, we will also discover His power and His glory!

OUR CHALLENGE TODAY

We can easily appreciate what David experienced. We may not be in the same kind of danger, but we can appreciate the dryness of the soul. Let us seek the Lord earnestly. Let us seek His power and His glory too!
