Text: Hebrews 10

THE WILL OF GOD

To many, the Will of God is a mystery that is next to impossible to fathom. To the Lord Jesus Christ, the Will of God was something He desired to do with all His heart.

Therefore, when He came into the world, He said:

“Sacrifice and offering You did not desire,

But a body You have prepared for Me.

In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin

You had no pleasure.

Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come—

In the volume of the book it is written of Me—

To do Your will, O God.’ ”     Hebrews 10:5-7

UNDERSTANDING THE WILL OF GOD

The Lord Jesus knew that the Scriptures contained the Will of God for His life.

  1. In the volume of the book it is written of Me

a) This is a reference to the Scriptures

b) There were many prophecies concerning the Lord Jesus Christ

  1. Knowledge of the Scriptures

a) The Lord Jesus showed obvious familiarity with the Scriptures

b) On one occasion in a synagogue in Nazareth, He was given the scroll of Isaiah

c) He turned to the appropriate text in Isaiah 61:1-3

d) He read this portion of the Scriptures

e) He then went on to say that He had fulfilled the Scriptures

f) This particular text had to do with the Anointing of the Spirit of God

OUR CHALLENGE

Our challenge is to study carefully the example of the Lord Jesus Christ and then seek to apply the Word of God in our life.

  1. The will of God is indicated in the Scriptures
  1. We cannot fully fathom His will without a deeper knowledge of the Lord’s word

PRACTICAL STEPS TO TAKE

Here are some practical steps that we can consider taking:

  1. Be familiar with the Scriptures
  1. Find and develop faith in the Lord
  1. Plan to follow through with what we have learned from the Bible

We would be able to fulfil what the Lord has planned as His will for us.
