THE LORD CAME

Text: Deuteronomy 33; Exodus 19-20
22 August 2021

GOD’S MANIFESTATION AT MOUNT SINAI

The LORD God graciously manifested Himself to the children of Israel at Mt. Sinai. This event was carefully recorded in Exodus 19-20.

  1. The Preparation

a) The children of Israel had to make special effort to receive God

b) The key word: They must be sure they are “clean” before a Holy God

  1. The Presence of God

a) The mountain quaked

b) Fire and darkness surrounded Mt. Sinai

c) The Presence of God came with a tremendous display of power

  1. The People of God

a) They trembled as they listened to the voice of God

b) God gave them 10 Commandments at Mt. Sinai

REMEMBERING THIS WONDERFUL MOMENT

Forty years later, Moses still remembered this special moment. He described it for a new generation of the children of Israel.

“The Lord came from Sinai,
And dawned on them from Seir;
He shone forth from Mount Paran,
And He came with ten thousands of saints;
From His right hand
Came a fiery law for them.     Deuteronomy 33:2

  1. The Coming of the LORD

a) From Mount Sinai

b) From Mount Seir (in Edom)

c) From Mount Paran (in association with Sinai)

The mountains represented the Majesty and Powerful Presence of God!

2. With ten thousands of saints

a) The word “saints” 

It means holy ones

b) In this context this would be a reference

i) To the holy angels of God

ii) Rather than human saints

  1. The law of God

a) This is a reference to the 10 Commandments

b) The law of God is to be held in the highest esteem

LET US NEVER FORGET

There are things we must never forget, no matter how many years have passed!

  1. The blessings of God
  1. The lessons learned from the law of God

May we ever treasure all the blessings given to us these past 48 years!
