GLADNESS OF HEART

Text: Psalm 16

EVERY REASON TO HAVE GLADNESS OF HEART

Each Lunar New Year sees all families speak gladly of a better year ahead. The very idea of Hope brings much joy to the heart.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices;

My flesh also will rest in hope.

10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol,

Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

11 You will show me the path of life;

In Your presence is fullness of joy;

At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.     Psalm 16:9-11

  1. Therefore my heart is glad

Three reasons for this gladness of heart may be highlighted

a) The LORD Himself is the treasured inheritance     Psalm 16:5

b) Then there is the counsel of the LORD given     Psalm 16:7

c) The LORD is always close by     Psalm 16:8

  1. And my glory rejoices

a) The word “glory” has a number of nuances

i) It may be a reference to the faculties of the soul

ii) It may be a reference to anything that brings glory to God

b) The inner being of the person that is well-developed

i) It will result in great rejoicing

ii) Indeed, the soul may rejoice greatly

c) The level of rejoicing is one that may truly be called glorious

  1. My flesh also will rest in hope

a) This hope is that of our Soul not remaining in the grave

b) The body will die one day, but the Soul would not see corruption

c) This is a glorious hope that should bring much gladness indeed

  1. In the Presence of God

a) There will be life

b) There will also be joy

c) God gives wonderful pleasure to those who walk with Him closely

WISHING ALL THESE BLESSINGS OF GOD

May these blessings we read about in Psalm 16 be fulfilled in our life in the New Year! May the Lord help us to do our part in keeping close to God!
