THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

A DIFFERENT DESCRIPTION 

A slightly different description of the Fruit of the Spirit is described in Ephesians. The context in Ephesians is different from that of Galatians.

8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 

9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 

10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.     Ephesians 5:8-10

THE FOCUS IN EPHESIANS

The focus in Galatians was Paul’s pitched battle against false teachers. The focus in Ephesians is strong encouragement to walk faithfully and fruitfully!

  1. The Past

a) We once walked in darkness

b) Sin adds to our darkness!

  1. The Present

a) We become children of God

b) The Gospel shed vital light

c) We are now called “children of light”

  1. The Fruit of the Spirit

a) Expressed in Goodness

b) Found in Righteousness

c) Characterised by Truth

OUR CHALLENGE

Surely our challenge is to discover what is acceptable to the Lord. 

  1. We must never return to our old life of sin     Ephesians 4
  1. Our Christian walk must be given careful attention     Ephesians 5

Let us spare no effort in our search to be filled with the Spirit of God!
