GALILEE OF THE GENTILES

AN INSIGHTFUL PROPHECY 

Isaiah was the most prolific writer concerning the birth, life and ministry of the Messiah. Life in Israel in the days of the Messiah would be pronouncedly difficult. 

1 Nevertheless the gloom will not be upon her who is distressed,
As when at first He lightly esteemed

The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,

And afterward more heavily oppressed her,

By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan,

In Galilee of the Gentiles.

2 The people who walked in darkness

Have seen a great light;

Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death,

Upon them a light has shined.     Isaiah 9:1-2

  1. Galilee

a) Israel would be ruled by Gentiles

b) Galilee would be inhabited by Gentiles too

  1. The spiritual stature of Galilee

a) There was gloom and distress

b) It was lightly esteemed

c) There was oppression

d) The people lived in darkness

e) The spiritual state was truly appalling

A GREAT LIGHT

How far different is the world today in comparison? We live in great spiritual darkness still. How we need to appreciate afresh the ministry of the Lord Jesus as we celebrate Advent!

  1. He is the Great Light that shines in the darkness
  1. We need that light to dispel our darkness
  1. Let us seek to walk in the light
  1. May we walk as sons of light!
