RIGHTEOUSNESS SHALL BE THE BELT OF HIS LOINS

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MESSIAH

The Messiah that the LORD promised to send would possess wonderful characteristics. Some of them are highlighted here.

3 His delight is in the fear of the Lord,

And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes,

Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;

4 But with righteousness He shall judge the poor,

And decide with equity for the meek of the earth;

He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth,

And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.

5 Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins,

And faithfulness the belt of His waist.     Isaiah 11:3-5

  1. The fear of the LORD

a) The Messiah would always have a sense of reverence for God

b) This sense of reverence was however “a delight!”

  1. The discerning judgment that He would exercise

a) It would not be superficial 

b) It would involve more than seeing and hearing

  1. Righteous judgment

a) He will judge with holy righteousness

b) His decisions would be clear equity

c) But there would also be resolute firmness against evil

  1. Faithfulness

a) This is closely tied with righteousness

b) One cannot do without the other

OUR CHALLENGE

Let this Christmas season draw us closer to our Lord and Saviour. Let us be inspired!

  1. To admire the moral integrity of the Messiah
  1. To emulate His sense of righteousness and faithfulness
