IN THE SHADOW OF HIS HAND

Text: Isaiah 49

A PROPHETIC TESTIMONY

The following text is a remarkable prophetic testimony of the Messiah. He took time to trace the LORD’s hand in His life and ministry.

“Listen, O coastlands, to Me,

And take heed, you peoples from afar!

The Lord has called Me from the womb;

From the [a]matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name.

2 And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword;

In the shadow of His hand He has hidden Me,

And made Me a polished shaft;

In His quiver He has hidden Me.”     Isaiah 49:1-2

  1. The Messiah addressed the Multitudes

a) The coastlands

b) People from afar

c) This was a veiled reference to people outside Israel

  1. Important elements of His Testimony

a) The Calling of the LORD

i)   Called from the womb

ii)  His name was already mentioned before He was born

b) The making of the Messiah

i)  The LORD would personally equip the Messiah for ministry

ii)  He would help Him to be sharp in speaking

c) In the shadow of the LORD’s hand

i)  Some aspects of the Messiah’s life would be hidden

ii)  This was for the protection of the Messiah in His growing up years

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

  1. To appreciate the LORD’s personal involvement

a) In the Messiah’s life

b) In our life

  1. To respond to the LORD as the Messiah did

a) To trust

b) To serve

c) To fulfil what the LORD has planned
