THE DESPAIR OF ISRAEL

Assyria conquered Israel in 722 BC. Judah fell to the Babylonians in 586 BC. The divided kingdoms of Israel and Judah had come to a tragic end. Their defeat and captivity were forewarned. But the two kingdoms had rejected the word of the LORD to their own peril.

LIVING AS CAPTIVES IN BABYLON

Many lived in fear. Others were filled with dismay. The future seemed bleak and uncertain. Isaiah was sent to deliver this message of hope to Israel.

“But you, Israel, are My servant,
Jacob whom I have chosen,
The descendants of Abraham My friend.

You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth,
And called from its farthest regions,
And said to you,
‘You are My servant,
I have chosen you and have not cast you away:

10 Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.     Isaiah 41:8-10

OUR CHALLENGE

These promises are still relevant and vitally true. The LORD would never go back on His word. He would fulfil all that He has promised. Let us renew our faith in the LORD and His word.
