THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD

Text: Mark 1

THE GOSPEL NARRATIVES

There were four Gospels narratives written about the Lord Jesus Christ and what He came to do. In all of the Gospels the focus of the Lord Jesus was the preaching of the Kingdom of God!

14 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

16 And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

17 Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

18 They immediately left their nets and followed Him.     Mark 1:14-18

  1. The Kingdom of God

a) The Gospel was the message of the Kingdom of God

b) This was a word that the Lord Jesus proclaimed faithfully

  1. The relevance of the Gospel message

a) The Kingdom of God was at hand

b) The time was fulfilled

i)  It was first prophesied that God would send His Messiah

ii) That time had come. The Messiah had appeared to fulfil prophecy

RESPONSE TO THE GOSPEL

This was enjoined. All were invited to enter into the Kingdom of God. The entrance into that Kingdom was repentance from sin and faith in the Messiah whom God had sent!

THE CALLING OF DISCIPLES

The Lord Jesus foresaw the time when His work on earth would be done. He wanted to train and equip disciples who would carry on with the work of proclaiming the kingdom of God. The Disciples the Lord chose were but humble fishermen. They would one day also rise up to preach things concerning the kingdom of God.
