AS I WAS WITH MOSES, SO I WILL BE WITH YOU


(I) THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROMISE OF THE LORD’S PRESENCE


“As I was with Moses, so I will be with you…” Joshua 1:5

1. Original promise

“So He said, ‘I will certainly be with you…’ ” Exodus 3:12

a) Powerful presence of God in Moses’ life and ministry

b) Premise of confidence in God’s promise


2. Pointed promise

“So I will be with you…” Joshua 1:5

a) Context of the next generation doing God’s work

b) God too will be with Joshua in the same way as He was with Moses


3. Plans of God to be realised in our life

a) Our role

b) Our place

c) Our ministry


(II) SCRIPTURAL PRINCIPLES TO EXERCISING FAITH IN THE PROMISE OF THE LORD’S PRESENCE

1. With reference to the original promise

a) Principle of regard for God

“Take your sandals off your feet from the place where you stand is holy ground… And Moses hid his face for he was afraid to look upon God” Exodus 3:5

b) Principle of faithfulness to God as His servant

“Moses my servant…” Joshua 1:2


2. With reference to the pointed promise

a) Principle of preparation

“Prepare provision for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over the Jordan.” Joshua 1:11

b) Principle of the Lord’s exaltation

“And the Lord said to Joshua, ‘This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know, as I was with Moses, So I will be with you.’ ” Joshua 3:7-10

(III) STRENGTH OF CONFIDENCE IN THE PROMISE OF THE LORD’S PRESENCE

“So I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.” Joshua 1:5

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
