Surely He Has Borne Our Griefs

THE SINFUL STATE OF MAN

1. Rejection of Jesus

a) The world was made by Him but the world did not know Him   (John 1:10)
b) He came to His own, but His own did not receive Him   (John 1:11)
c) Rejected in Nazareth   (Mark 6:4)
d) Rejected in Jerusalem   (John 8:59)

2. Revelation of Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah-Servant

Who has believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?   Isaiah 53:1
a) To the Samaritan woman   (John 4:25-36)
b) To three Disciples (Transfiguration)   (Matthew 17:1-13)
c) Revelation through:
i) His life
ii) His teachings
iii) His miracles
d) He is despised and rejected by men   (Isaiah 53:3a)

JESUS THE BEARER OF OUR GRIEFS

1. Jesus- Unappreciated

a) He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant   (Isaiah 53:2a)
b) And as a root out of dry ground   (Isaiah 53:2b)
c) He has no form or comeliness   (Isaiah 53:2c)
d) When we see Him there is no form or comeliness that we should desire Him   (Isaiah 53:2d)

2. Jesus- the Bearer of our griefs

a) A Man of sorrows acquainted with grief   (Isaiah 53:3b)
b) Surely He has borne our griefs   (Isaiah 53:4a)
c) And carried our sorrows   (Isaiah 53:4b)
d) He was wounded for our transgressions   (Isaiah 53:5a)
e) He was bruised for our iniquities   (Isaiah 53:5b)
f) The LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all   (Isaiah 63:6c)

TO ALL WHO RECEIVE JESUS

1. He offers sonship   (John 1:12)

2. He offers eternal life   (John 3:16)

3. He offers a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life   (John 4:13)

4. He offers the promise of no judgment, but the promise of eternal life   (John 5:24)
