a) To practise this whole-heartedly
b) To progress significantly

A PERSONAL TESTIMONY

1. Personal practise of Blessing the LORD

“Blessed be the LORD” Psalm 144:1a

2. Personal Reasons:

a) God’s involvement in training
“Who trains my hand for war
And my fingers for battle” Psalm 144:1b
b) God’s protection acknowledged and appreciated (Psalm 144:2)

3. Personal experience of God
(Note the personal pronoun “my”)

a) As a Fortress
b) As a high tower
c) As a deliverer
d) As a shield
e) As a refuge
f) As One who subdues enemies

4. Personal and deep appreciation of the LORD’s blessing in our life

a) He who has been forgiven much will love much
b) He who has been blessed much must also bless much

BLESSING THE LORD WITH A NEW SONG

1. There must be Appropriate Response

a) Appropriate response is very personal
b) Much depends on how deeply the heart has been touched
c) Much depends on how the individual will respond
i) Appreciation
ii) Maturity
iii) Gratitude

2. Inspiration to Create a new song

I will sing a new song to You, O God (Psalm 144:9)

a) Composition of a new Psalm (song)
b) Composing music for the new song
On a harp of ten strings
c) This is hard work
i) Time
ii) Words
iii) Music
iv) From commencement to completion

2. Dedicating the new song to the LORD totally

a) To the One who gives salvation
b) To the One who delivers His servant from a deadly sword

c) There is no exaltation of self at all

CONCLUDING ON A NOTE OF PRAYER

1. Reality of Life

a) Problems will never go away
b) We need the Lord
i) His grace
ii) His mercy
iii) His power
iv) His protection
v) His blessings

2. Praying for deliverance again
Psalm 144:11

a) Enemies will always be there
b) Deliverance from God must be sought
i) Humbly
ii) Vigilantly

3. Praying for the next generation
Psalm 144:12

a) That the sons may be plants grown up in their youth
b) That the daughters may be pillars, sculptured in palace style
c) Our Children are the most important:
i) Treasures
ii) Assets

4. Praying for God’s provision
Psalm 144:13

a) Barns may be full
b) Sheep to multiply significantly
c) Oxen well-laden
d) This does not mean we are materialistic
e) It simply means that we are pragmatic and realistic

5. Praying that the people of God may be “happy” (blessed)

“Blessed are the people whose God is the LORD” Psalm 144:15

a) Much to rejoice in
b) Much to be grateful for
c) Much to impart and share with the next generation

CONCLUSION

1. To bless the Lord

a) With our soul
b) With all that is within us

2. To bow in grateful acknowledgement that Man is unworthy of the Lord’s notice

a) What is man that You take knowledge of him?
b) Or the son of man that You are mindful of him? (Psalm 144:3)
c) Man is like a breath;
His days are like a passing shadow (Psalm 144:4)
